Get Googled By Google

Google optimization is becoming increasingly difficult as more and more companies compete for the all elusive top 10 rank. Google, as a search engine is friendly enough to work with. All you have to is submit your site and wait patiently for the 'googlebot' to hunt your site down and list it. Notice I said 'list it' - NOT 'rank it'. Here are some tips and tricks to make the Google spider's visit to your site a little more inviting and therefore enticing:

Google likes LINKS - lots of 'em!

The best way to get a high ranking in Google is to have as many OTHER web sites linking to YOUR site. It's called 'reciprocal linking or link-backing''. As Google uses link popularity, (as its most important factor) to determine where a particular web site will rank in its listings, having many sites link back to your site is a guarantee of getting a high(er) ranking.

Link popularity means the number of other web sites which link to your site. But be warned: You want QUALITY links, not QUANTITY links to get a high ranking on Google. If your site is linked to many popular sites then you are sure to get a higher ranking than if it is linked to hundreds of unpopular sites.
The concept is simple: If your web site offers quality products or services then other sites will want to link to yours. As a result your site is 'popular' and therefore warrants a higher ranking in the search engines. As a result you get more visitors, (hits) and guess what? MORE BUSINESS!

Google TIPS and TRICKS

1- Quality links means getting links FROM your competition if you can. Why? Because their product or service is representative of YOURS. If you're selling oranges and you have a lot of web sites who also sell oranges linking to your orange-selling site, then Google figures you must be a pretty important player in the orange market.
It's called reciprocal linking: You put a link to Joe's Orange Sales on your site and you persuade him to put a link on his site which points back to your web site. Just ask webmasters to add your link to their site politely pointing out that you have already added their link to yours. Give them a brief description of what your site is about and how it will be of benefit to theirs. Explain to them the advantage of reciprocal linking... You may be competitors, but you both win with your web sites' increased ranking in Google.
One way to find other web sites that might be interested in linking to yours is to have a look at your competition's link popularity by doing a search on Google or any other search engine such as Yahoo or MSN. Make a note of the links, visit the web sites and start firing off e-mails to the respective webmasters. (Don't forget to add their link to your site first).

2 - Search engines like fresh content - Keep your web site up-to-date and actual.
How? Simple! Write a blog or start a forum or have a 'What's New' area. Posting quality articles about the products or services you offer is not only a great way of attracting consumers to your web site in the first place, but also keeps the search engine spiders mindful that you're still in business!

3 - You can check your web site's link popularity on Google by typing in the following: link:www.yourdomainname.com

Google

and voila, you'll see how famous you are! Or not :-(

Try Yahoo here: in the search box, type link:http://www.yourdomainname.com

Another cool site to check your web site's link popularity is alltheweb.com. Just type in link.all:www.yourdomainname.com - It seems to find a lot more linking sites than Google at this time, (June 2007)
